Causes of swelling and cracking of silicone sealant (2)

Blistering and bulging will affect the appearance of sealant, and will not affect the performance. However, cracking of sealant will not only be unsightly, but also greatly affect the performance of sealing. There will be bad consequences of water leakage or bonding failure. The main causes of sealant cracking are:
(1) Wrong selection. According to the standard, there are many kinds of silicone sealant, such as 20hm, 20lm, 25hm and 25lm. Different types of silicone sealant have different displacement in practice. If the displacement is large in design, the weatherproof sealant with low modulus and high elasticity should be selected. If the weatherproof sealant with high modulus and low elasticity is selected, it will cause too much cohesion and cracking.
(2) The cleanliness of the substrate is not enough. After vulcanization, silicone sealant has low bonding strength due to insufficient surface cleanliness, and falls off and cracks from the surface due to poor adhesion strength during displacement deformation.
(3) The reason of sealant itself. In order to reduce the cost, some manufacturers often use too many fillers and some cheap untreated fillers, and some add excessive plasticizer, etc. in order to reduce the cost, the sealant made in this way is easy to crack in the use process.
